Baptism
Here at Grange Baptist we love to see people transformed by Jesus as they respond to His invitation to be a part of His family. When this happens we want to make this great news public. Baptism is one way to do this and is strongly encouraged by all adults who have decided to trust and follow Jesus.
For many, they first discover and experience the love of the Father God when they are not yet adults. While we do not stop them from being Baptised we encourage them on a journey of discipleship in preparation for this public celebration. We want children to know God loves them and that it is good to decide to trust him as early as possible. When a child comes to a point of responding to God's invitation we will be intentional in helping them grow in their understanding of what this means and look for ways to publicly celebrate this wonderful decision, while encouraging them to delay baptism until they are adults.
What is Baptism?
Baptism is a symbolic act.
Simply put, it's an outward sign of an inward change. But baptism is also a gift from God. It is an opportunity to be reminded that we are now a child of God and a part of His family.
Baptism does not save us. You can only be saved by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. God designed our journey of faith so that when we put our faith in Christ, the person we were before we met Him is put to death and we become "born again" - we become a new person.
Baptism is the next step we take, making a public statement of our faith and symbolising our transition from death into the new life He has given us. Baptism in the Bible occurs as adults are put under (immersed) in water symbolising their burial with Jesus and then as we come up out of the water, is a symbol of how we are now raised to a new Life in Jesus.
What the Bible has to say regarding Baptism
Acts 2:38-39
Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away – all who have been called by the Lord our God.”
Acts 19:4-5
Paul said, “John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.” As soon as they heard this, they were baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Should I Be Baptised?
Jesus commanded that all Christians be baptised as an initial act of obedience in discipleship (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38). At Grange Baptist, we want to be obedient to Jesus and follow the apostles' lead in baptising all believers upon profession of faith in Jesus (Acts 10:47-48).
If you believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, then you are a new creation and the next step is to be baptised, declaring before God, your church, and your community that you are now part of His eternal family. We are excited to celebrate your new life and obedience to God! Sign up to be baptised by filling out the form below. We can't wait to hear from you!
